Guided night walk

Loris Watching (Night Walk)

A quiet guided walk after dark in search of the slender loris and the other creatures of the night.

About the slender loris

The grey slender loris is a small, slow-moving primate with huge eyes, found in Sri Lanka’s dry-zone forests. It is nocturnal and shy, spending the day curled up in dense foliage and coming out after dark to feed on insects.

On the walk

  • A local guide leads a slow walk through scrub or forest edge
  • Red-filtered torches help spot reflecting eyes without disturbing animals
  • Look out too for owls, nightjars, frogs, geckos and fireflies
  • Sightings are never guaranteed. This is a wild animal in its own habitat

Tips

  • Wear closed shoes and long trousers, and bring insect repellent.
  • Don’t use flash photography, and never touch or feed wildlife.
  • Keep your voice low and follow your guide’s lead.
