The flight
Hot-air balloon flights in the Sigiriya and Dambulla area take off around sunrise, when the air is calm. Drifting with the wind, you float over forest canopy, reservoirs, paddy fields and villages, with views towards the region’s rock outcrops.
How it works
- Pickup is before dawn, with a short transfer to the launch site
- Ballooning is seasonal and depends entirely on the weather. Flights can be cancelled on the morning for safety
- Operators set their own age, health and weight guidelines
Tips
- Book ahead in the flying season. Places are limited.
- Wear layers and flat, closed shoes.
- Keep a flexible day in your plans in case the flight is moved.
Prices, timings and inclusions vary by season and operator — ask our front desk for current details and to book.
