The ride
The land around Sigiriya is mostly flat, which makes it ideal for cycling. The route to Lion Rock passes village homes, paddy fields and small farms, and gives you a feel for the area that you miss from a car.

- The ancient moats and walls on the approach to the rock
Tips
Bicycles can be hired at the villa (charges may apply).
- Go early, before the heat builds, and combine the ride with your climb.
- Carry water and sun protection.
- Watch for tuk-tuks and buses on the main roads.
