About Ritigala
Ritigala is a forested mountain rising from the dry plains, protected as a strict nature reserve. On its lower slopes lie the ruins of a monastery once used by ascetic monks: paved paths, stone bridges, a large ancient pond and distinctive double platforms thought to have been used for meditation. Local legend also links the mountain to the Ramayana.
