About Pidurangala
Pidurangala is a rock outcrop just north of Sigiriya, home to a Buddhist temple and a large reclining Buddha near the top. The climb is shorter than Sigiriya’s but rougher, finishing with a scramble over boulders to a broad summit facing Lion Rock.
What to expect
- A temple at the base — shoulders and knees should be covered here
- Uneven stone steps through the forest
- A short, steep boulder scramble near the top
- Wide views of Sigiriya Rock and the surrounding plains
Tips
- Sunrise and late afternoon are popular for the light — ask us about timing.
- Bring a torch if you’re climbing in low light.
- Wear shoes you can scramble in; sandals are not ideal.
